À l'occasion d’une exposition dans un tabac presse, je me suis intéressée au cale-porte du lieu. Son emplacement et la manière dont la pièce de bois calait la porte lui procurait une visibilité plus importante qu’à l'accoutumée. Un cale porte est par nature presque toujours bricolé ou tire partie d’un morceau de bois qui de manière fortuite répond à sa nouvelle fonction.

J’ai réalisé une réplique presque exacte de ce cale-porte, les dimensions sont les mêmes, seules les arêtes ont été travaillées comme des moulures. Il me plaît à penser que ma pièce va rester invisible jusqu’au moment où, une fois remarquée, on se demandera pourquoi l’épicier s’est donné tant de mal pour un objet si dérisoire.

On the occasion of an exhibition in a night shop, I was intrigued by the doorstop of the place. Its location and the way in which the piece of wood blocked the door made it more visible than usual. A doorstop is by nature almost always improvised or made from a piece of wood that coincidentally fulfils its new function.

I have made an almost exact replica of this door wedge, the dimensions are the same, only the edges have been worked like mouldings. I like to think that my piece will remain invisible until, once noticed, people will wonder why the grocer put so much effort into such a derisory object.
