Methods, le verre à l'époque médievale

ArtScience research and creation residency with archaeometer Alicia Van Ham-Meert from the ULB 4MAT laboratory and Ohme, Brussels

Ce projet ArtScience rassemble l’archéomètre Alicia Van Ham-Meert et l’artiste-souffleuse de verre Héloïse Colrat autour de la production du verre à l’époque médiévale. Elles s’appuient sur les recherches du FNRS menées par Alicia sur les vitraux de l’ancien monastère de Stavelot (BE) et, ensemble, elles ont élaboré différentes recettes de verres potassiques en se basant sur l’analyse de ces vitraux. C’est ensuite via le soufflage au chalumeau qu’Héloïse éprouve la viscosité et la plasticité de ces différentes compositions.

This ArtScience project brings together archaeometer Alicia Van Ham-Meert and glassblower-artist Héloïse Colrat to explore the production of glass in medieval times. Based on Alicia's FNRS research on stained glass windows from the ancient monastery of Stavelot (BE), they have developed different recipes for potassium glasses based on the analysis of these windows. Héloïse then used torch glass-blowing to test the viscosity and plasticity of these different compositions.
